About Us
TyreSafe is the new name for the Tyre Industry Council, a not for profit non commercial organisation set up 16 years ago with the responsibility of raising the awareness of the importance of the dangers of defective and worn tyres.
TyreSafe has received positive support from all major tyre companies and leading tyre retailing groups across the UK together with other road safety organisation such as the RAC Foundation, RoadSafe and BRAKE.
The organisation and its activities has been credited with reducing the number of defective tyres in the UK over the past 16 years from 20% to 12% today. The new TyreSafe will continue to campaign to underline the dangers of driving with defective or badly worn tyres and will provide information to government about these dangers to help influence any change in the tyre law.
TyreSafe will be issuing regular tyre safety information to all interested parties and a totally new website will contain important tyre safety information as well as addressing industry issues related to the safe and responsible use of tyres.

Prince Michael International Road Safety Award
Five years ago the Tyre Industry Council gained the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Award for its work in the area of tyre safety. The award recognised the work undertaken by the Council with law enforcement agencies, road safety groups and local councils to create programmes that impact on motorists and have been responsible for reducing the number of defective and badly worn tyres thereby helping to reduce the number of accidents in wet road conditions.
The EU Road Safety Charter
The EU Road Safety Charter was created to reduce the number of deaths and injuries in road accidents across all EU member states and target a 50% reduction by 2010. TyreSafe has become the first tyre safety organisation to become a signatory to this important Charter.
The TyreSafe Operating Council
The direction and activities of the new TyreSafe will be shaped by a council of 12 tyre industry company representatives who will meet on a regular basis.
