Peter Taylor honoured with TIC Lifetime Achievement Award
Published 1st December 2006
A TIC Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Peter Taylor by the chairman of the Tyre Industry Council Brian Smith at this year's Rubber Industry Dinner held at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel in Solihull.
Peter Taylor will be stepping down as secretary of the TIC after fifteen years, although he was involved with its inception back in 1986. The Lifetime Achievement Award - only the second presented in the Council's history - recognises the tremendous contribution that Peter has made to the important work of the Council.
In his presentation address Brian Smith reflected on Peter's work with the TIC and how he helped create, shape and advance the Council's tyre safety agenda in particular with UK police forces as well as government and non governmental organisations. Brian also mentioned that during his tenure as secretary the percentage of defective and illegal tyres has fallen from almost 20% to 12% today. As a consequence delivering almost 1 million new tyres into the marketplace.
Peter's contribution to the creation and implementation of regional tyre safety initiatives was key to advancing tyre safety awareness messages at local level and the campaigns in the north east of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland have been running successfully for many years and continue to this day.
Peter Taylor's contribution in the area of scrap tyres has been very significant. The creation of the Responsible Recycler Scheme for which Peter must take most responsibility, said Brian, is arguably the most effective and innovative in Europe. This ground breaking scheme continues to be influenced by Peter in his role as director general of the Tyre Recovery Association. Whilst Peter Taylor is stepping down from his role as secretary of TIC, he continues with the TRA, as a board member of the Tyre Industry Federation and as director of the Imported Tyre Manufacturers' Association.
