Run-flat tyres are becoming increasingly commonplace on the roads of the UK as more car manufacturers fit these advanced tyres as standard equipment or as an optional extra. However, there are still some misconceptions surrounding the fitment and use of this new type of tyre.
Many parts of the UK are experiencing their first winter snow falls and icy roads. At this time says the Tyre Industry Council, motorists should think more about their tyres than at any other time of the year.

The Tyre Industry Council has decided that it will begin endorsing tyre safety related products and services. The first product to receive TIC approval is a simple yet effective development, to be marketed to the aftermarket, which ensures the pressure in the spare tyre is capable of being monitored and inflated easily and conveniently.
The fitment of SST run-flat tyres to cars not originally designed to accept these advanced types of tyre, and not equipped with a pressure monitoring system, is not recommended by the tyre industry's foremost safety body, the Tyre Industry Council.
A series of independent tests carried out at the Motor Industry Research Association provides new evidence that with tyres currently in use on British roads the risks of having an accident in the wet rise significantly the lower the tread depth.
