2 November 2006
Other tyre and road safety clinics are to be arranged by Edinburgh City Council and Lothian and Borders Police Road Safety Team at Motorworld in Motherwell. Full details of these additional road safety initiatives will be announced in the local press.
Scottish Tyre Safety Week is one of the most successful and popular road safety initiatives to be held in Scotland and is now in its 16th year. The event is designed to raise the awareness of the importance of the dangers of driving with defective or badly worn tyres and is organised by the Tyre Industry Council with support from the Association of Chief Police Officers, Glasgow City Council Road Safety Team, Scottish Road Safety Council and St. Andrews Ambulance plus all major tyre companies and tyre retailers in Scotland. Full details are available by logging onto the TIC website at www.tyresafety.co.uk and clicking onto Scottish Tyre Safety 2006.
During tyre safety week the police will be checking tyres on vehicles throughout Scotland, motorists found with a defective tyre could face a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points on their licence.
