Free Tyre Safety Checks for Tyre Safety Week
11 October 2006
All major tyre dealers and manufacturers in Northern Ireland are offering free tyre safety checks and advice in the run-up to this year's Northern Ireland Tyre Safety Week, part of the Police Service of Northern Ireland's winter safety campaign.
Starting next week motorists can call into any participating tyre dealer and have a check for tread depth and general condition of their tyres in advance of tyre safety week, which commences on the 23rd October and will include roadside enforcement checks by the Police. Details of where to find your local participating dealer can be found at www.tyresafety.co.uk.
In addition to the local dealer checks, tyre manufacturers and dealers are holding a series of tyre safety ‘clinics' at major supermarkets and shopping centre car parks around Northern Ireland. The list of clinic locations is attached and can also be found on the Tyre Industry Council's website.
The law requires that tyres have a minimum of 1.6mm of tread. A driver of a car or van found to have a defective tyre or tyres could face a £2,500 fine and penalty points on the driving licence.
