200 airline valve extensions and pressure gauges up for grabs from TyreSafe

Every day, bikers are turning up at petrol forecourt airlines, and putting their lives at risk because they do not have the right equipment with them to check their tyre pressures. Airline machines tend to only cater for cars and commercial vehicles, and with thousands of bikers set to hit the UK’s roads this bank holiday weekend, TyreSafe is giving away 200 packs of airline valve extensions for motorcyclists and tyre pressure gauges, courtesy of TyreSafe supporter PCL Limited, for the first 200 people who sign up to the monthly TyreSafe e-newsletter, an indispensable one-stop summary of the latest safety and related issues affecting the tyre industry.

During the highly successful Bike Tyre Safety Month in March, it was revealed that defective tyres account for the fourth biggest failure of motorcycle MOTs in the UK, after lights, brakes and suspension, according to the latest statistics from the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency (VOSA). The report showed that between 2006 and 2007, close to 5,000 bikes failed their annual MOT because of tyres which were not fit for purpose.

This presents a worrying picture says TyreSafe, and provides hard evidence of the extent to which tyres are neglected, and the thousands of riders who are putting their lives at risk every day on the nation’s roads as a result of their condition.

To register for the free TyreSafe e-newsletter, and be in with a chance of winning the motorcycle airline extensions and pressure gauges, visitors may enter their e-mail address and name at www.tyresafe.org/mailing/.
