A Scottish prawn fisherman has become the prize draw winner of the TyreSafe tyre safety month competition for a £200.00 Apple iPod mp3 player. Over 6,000 members of the public logged on to the TyreSafe website during the campaign to check their tyre pressures and entered the competition.

According to a report from Hertfordshire police, defective tyres are one of the top five causes of death and injury on Hertfordshire roads. The report from the police mirrors the concerns expressed by TyreSafe and is supported by government figures which show that under-inflated and defective tyres are responsible for a third of all road crashes resulting in injury

The focus of tyre safety month, which runs to the end of October, has been the road safety dangers posed by driving a vehicle with under-inflated tyres. And yet according to TyreSafe, over inflated tyres can equally cause problems. It can reduce the tyre's contact patch on the road making a skid more likely.
