In advance of this year’s Scottish Tyre Safety Week in November the Tyre Industry Council – Britain’s foremost tyre safety organisation - has issued a series of simple tyre safety tips designed to keep a car legal and get the maximum performance and mileage out of a set of tyres.

Tyre safety campaign will target defective and badly worn tyres

Defective and badly worn tyres are a contributory factor in many vehicle accidents particularly when the roads are wet says the Tyre Industry Council – Britain’s foremost tyre safety organisation. In a series of police checks in Lancashire last year almost 30% of cars checked had at least one tyre below the legal minimum of 1.6mm or worn below 2mm, not illegal but considered to be in need of replacement. This was one of the highest figures for defective tyre recorded in the UK.

One in three cars in the North East has at least one defective or badly worn tyre

Getting on for one in three of all cars and vans on the road in the north east of England have at least one defective or badly worn tyre according to the Tyre Industry Council, Britain’s foremost tyre safety organisation.
