Time for a change?
As winter approaches and the roads become more hazardous, it’s perhaps more important than ever to ensure that your tyres are safe and legal. And this October, as part of tyre safety month, we’ll be encouraging drivers to make sure they’re safe this winter by asking if it’s ‘time for a change?’
So, if you’re not sure about the condition of your tyres or whether they’ve got enough tread to keep you safe on wet, wintry roads, then now’s the time to find out by giving your tyres a thorough inspection.
We’ve put together a host of information to help you understand how to check your tyres, but of course if you’d rather have a professional inspect them, hundreds of garages and tyre dealers will be offering free tyre safety checks as part of tyre safety month.
To find out the location of your nearest participating centre, contact our campaign hotline on 0845 3016852.
As well as checking the condition of your existing tyres you may be considering switching over to winter tyres. Winter tyres provide added safety when temperatures drop below 7 degrees Celsius making them ideal from October through to March and not just when roads are covered in snow and ice.
For more information about the benefits of winter tyres, see our dedicated winter tyre section and watch our ice rink demonstration movie.
Stay safe and legal
As the driver of a vehicle, you are responsible for ensuring its tyres are safe, legal and in a roadworthy state. As the only point of contact with the road surface, your safety depends on it. Failure to comply with the minimum regulations can result in fines of up to £2,500 and three penalty points for each illegal tyre. This could cost you your licence, or even worse, your life.
Garages, tyre dealers and many other organisations can take advantage of a range of FREE tyre safety month campaign materials. Posters, leaflets, web banners and other campaign materials have all been developed to help you promote the importance of tyre safety.
