Free Tyre Checks at The Fort in November

A tyre safety clinic offering free tyre checks and tyre safety advice will be arranged at the Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre on the 3rd and 4th November in the run up to this year’s Scottish Tyre Safety Week campaign.

Tyre companies, tyre retailers, safety bodies and the police will be setting up displays alongside the tyre checks in the Fort car park on the two days from 10 am to 4pm on both days.

Tyre are the only contact that a vehicle has with the road – four patches of rubber no bigger than the palm of your hand – and so the message from the Tyre Industry Council is to take advantage of the free tyre checks to ensure safe driving during the autumn and winter months.

Figures revealed by the TIC indicate that 30% of cars on Scottish roads have at least one defective or badly worn tyre and should be replaced. UK tyre law requires that car tyres must have a minimum of 1.6mm of tread, the penalty for breaking the law is a possible £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points on the driver license.

Editors Note Scottish Tyre Safety Week is an integral part of the annual Winter Safety Campaign which runs from Monday, 6th November to Friday, 10th November. The Tyre Industry Council is a not for profit organisation funded by the tyre industry and has become the foremost tyre safety organisation in the UK.
