Gearing up for Tyre Safety Month
With Tyre Safety Month fast approaching, TyreSafe outlines how the trade can get involved.
Defective tyres and wheels accounted for a fifth of MoT failures in 2007, according to statistics from VOSA. This year’s Tyre Safety Month will focus on the importance of tyre pressure in vehicle safety, helping motorists to understand the dangers of under and over-inflated tyres, as well as raising awareness of how, where and when to check tyre pressure. There are plenty of opportunities for the trade to get involved to help promote this vital safety message to consumers. The NTDA will also be showing its support.
“Building on the success of last year’s Tyre Safety Month, we would encourage the tyre trade to show the same enthusiasm this year to help consumers understand the dangers of under and over-inflated tyres,” says TyreSafe chairman Rob Beddis. “There are plenty of opportunities for the trade to get involved and show their support.”
Here are some of the options available to garages, tyre dealers and tyre fitters interested in taking part in Tyre Safety Month, October 2008:
TyreSafe has developed a number of promotional support materials, available for free from the website. Posters advertising free tyre checks can be downloaded, along with leaflets for consumers explaining the importance of tyre pressure and tread in vehicle safety, and press release templates that you can use to send your local press. All you have to do is fill in your company’s details and send the article to your paper.
A limited amount of printed material is also available by calling 020 7457 5040.
Offer free tyre safety checks
Offering the public free tyre safety checks is a great way to interest consumers who might not usually consider tyre safety to spend a few minutes taking their vehicle to a professional to have their tyres checked. Posters will be available advertising the checks, and garages can choose whether they offer a simple air pressure check, or whether to check tread depth and general condition of tyres as well.
Hold an event
Advice is available from TyreSafe about how to set up a tyre safety event in your local area. This could be anything from a stand in a shopping centre or car park with materials explaining the dangers of under or over-inflated tyres to a mobile tyre checking service. TyreSafe can provide all the leaflets and posters you need to make your event a success.
Competitions and giveaways
Why not consider drawing attention to Tyre Safety Month with competitions and giveaways? Offering customers the opportunity to win a prize automatically attracts attention and is a good way to highlight an important tyre safety message at the same time. TyreSafe is happy to provide advice on competitions.
