Every October road safety representatives from the emergency services and local councils work with the tyre industry for a month of awareness-raising events across the UK.

In 2014 more than 500,000 posters, leaflets and other campaign materials were distributed to the public during Tyre Safety Month. Events are held around the country and include awareness days with local police and fire services, tyre pressure audits at business car parks, free tyre safety checks by TyreSafe approved dealers as well as press and social media activities.

The campaign theme and materials for Tyre Safety Month are revealed for the first time by TyreSafe at its annual industry briefing. This year the briefing will be held on Thursday 9th July at the National Motorcycle Museum in the West Midlands, and anyone with an interest in road safety is encouraged to attend free of charge.

The launch will also include presentations from police, fire services, highway authorities and road safety partnerships, who will explain how they have supported Tyre Safety Month in the past and how they intend to do so in 2015.

“The Tyre Safety Month materials are always a fantastic help for our campaigns,” added Michelle Watkins, Senior Road Safety Officer, Central Bedfordshire Highways, who will be demonstrating their interactive safety car OSCAR at the briefing. “And the briefing brings all different kinds of people into the same room. Everyone comes away buzzing with ideas and equipped with everything they need for Tyre Safety Month and beyond.”

Pc Phil Barrow from the Casualty Reduction Team, Road Policing Unit of Sussex and Surrey Police has been involved in Tyre Safety Month for a number of years. “TyreSafe briefings give us the chance to share new ideas,” he commented, “The connections I’ve made through the briefings help us to provide effective educational activities during our Tyre Safety Month events in Sussex.”

As well as being able to order their Tyre Safety Month promotional materials and signage, attendees of the briefing will also have the opportunity to tour the National Motorcycle Museum’s exhibitions and collections free of charge.

“Tyre Safety Month 2014 was a massive success. It has become a firm fixture in anyone involved in road safety’s calendar,” said Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. “Events were held across the length and breadth of the country last year and they had a great impact on the public awareness of tyre safety.”

“We fully expect Tyre Safety Month 2015 to build on this reputation. We have a great theme and some really powerful visuals that I can’t wait for you all to see. You’ll want to be at the briefing this year to see them launched.”

TyreSafe invites anyone to attend the briefing free of charge, though spaces are limited and are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. To register you can fill out a form on the dedicated web page or call Phil Cruddace or Courtney Hicks on 01787 226995.
