Tyre safety campaign achieves record interest


18thAug08The latest tyre safety campaign to be held by safety organisation TyreSafe has achieved record interest, as the organisation’s website experienced its busiest month to date in April with 26,700 visits, a 185 percent increase from April 2008.

TyreSafe’s Bike Tyre Safety Month reached out to all motorcyclists, new and experienced, to raise awareness of the importance of tyres in road safety. Top tips for bike tyre safety maintenance together with key tyre safety advice were shared with bikers via a dedicated page on the TyreSafe website, where visitors were also offered the opportunity to register for the organisation’s newsletter and receive a free tyre valve extension.

The campaign received support from a wide range of organisations, such as the Motorcycle Industry Association, the Institute of Advanced Motorists and the British Motorcyclists Federation. “The interest we have received in Bike Tyre Safety Month is very encouraging,” comments Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. “I’m delighted that a growing number of people are actively choosing to inform themselves about tyre safety. We see this as a direct result of our constant focus on providing accurate and relevant advice to motorists and bikers, as we strive to become the UK’s first point of reference for tyre safety issues.”
TyreSafe’s Bike Tyre Safety Month campaign ran throughout April with hundreds of garages and tyre retailers around the country offering free tyre checks to bikers.

Together with informative advice disseminated via its website, TyreSafe distributed over 14,000 motorcycle tyre safety leaflets at key events such as the first 2009 meeting of the British Superbikes at Brands Hatch, a national meeting of the British Motorcyclists Federation and via training courses held by bike safety organisation BikeSafe. A further 1,200 leaflets were downloaded from the TyreSafe website.

“We look forward to building on the success of Bike Tyre Safety Month as we look ahead to October’s Car Tyre Safety Month campaign,” continues Jackson. “Our website will once again play a key part in reaching out to motorists and engaging their interest in tyre safety.”
Visits to the TyreSafe website have increased steadily since its launch in January 2007, with a significant upward trend recorded in 2008. The total number of visitors recorded in 2008 was 127,885, a 110 percent increase from 2007.

The website is compiled of different sections dedicated to news, practical tips and safety leaflets for all types of vehicle. Visitors can subscribe to a free monthly newsletter, listen to radio interviews or view a set of animated tyre safety guides.
