TyreSafe invites entries for 2017 Awards

Entries are now being invited for the TyreSafe Awards 2017. TyreSafe, the UK’s tyre safety awareness charity, is calling all road safety stakeholders to prepare submissions to demonstrate their tyre safety awareness activities during 2016.

Entries for the categories are welcomed from members and non-members of TyreSafe and can span a range of initiatives from social media and online campaigns to tyre workshops, themed events and local displays.

Winners will be presented with their awards at an evening ceremony on 6th July at The Belfry, Wishaw, which will be attended by senior members of the road safety community, representatives from the tyre and vehicle manufacturing and retail industries, and guests.

Single or multiple entries are invited for each of the following categories:

  1. Independent garage award
  2. Franchise dealership award
  3. Tyre manufacturer award
  4. Tyre retailer award
  5. Vehicle manufacturer award
  6. Best use of technology to support a tyre safety campaign
  7. Safety in the community award
  8. Emergency services award
  9. On-line and social media award

Outstanding achievement award – This special award will recognise the entry which demonstrates the most exceptional contribution to tyre safety and is awarded at the judges’ discretion.

Last year Cheshire Fire & Rescue service scooped both the Emergency Services Award and an Outstanding Achievement Award.

Colin Heyes, station manager, Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service, said: “Firefighting teams are on the frontline, seeing first-hand the devastating effects of poor tyre maintenance. Our efforts to drive down the casualty statistics are heartfelt. We carried out nearly 800 vehicle checks during our October 2016 campaign, together with TyreSafe supporters. The award is recognition for our endeavours, and I urge other emergency services to take part to showcase their work in this primary area of road safety.”

Micheldever/Protyre also received an Outstanding Achievement Award in appreciation for its considerable involvement in a multitude of tyre safety awareness drives over many years. Simon Hiorns, Protyre’s retail director, said: “The TyreSafe awards are a great way to recognise the contributions that individuals and organisations across a number of sectors make towards the cause of tyre safety. We all have a duty to educate and promote safer driving and I am delighted that the work we have done to communicate the TyreSafe message with our customers and the general public as a whole has been recognised through the awards. TyreSafe’s philosophy underpins one of the key values in Protyre which is to offer professional advice, make the right recommendation and improve road safety.“

Commenting on the success of the awards, Stuart Jackson, TyreSafe chairman, said: “The contribution made by organisations and companies across the country in making the UK’s roads safer is significant and we are keen to highlight and celebrate their commitment with the TyreSafe Awards. Whether you are a retailer, manufacturer, blue light service or tyre safety stakeholder, please make sure you have entered the TyreSafe Awards 2017.”
