TyreSafe and Wise partner to strengthen safety and compliance for self-employed workforces

TyreSafe and Wise

Partnership brings together expertise in tyre safety and workforce compliance as growth of last-mile delivery and subcontracted work puts new demands on businesses and drivers

TyreSafe and Wise have announced a new partnership to strengthen the connection between tyre safety, responsible workforce management and compliance.

The partnership brings together TyreSafe’s expertise in tyre safety with Wise’s experience in helping businesses manage compliant self-employed and subcontracted workforces.

As last-mile delivery and subcontracted work continue to grow, drivers are increasingly working to demanding schedules, travelling between multiple locations and operating under significant time pressure. The partnership will highlight the importance of ensuring that safety is built into the working day, rather than treated as something to address after an incident or problem has occurred.

Safety and compliance go hand in hand

For businesses using self-employed or subcontracted workforces, compliance can extend from onboarding and verification through to ongoing workforce management.

However, responsible management is about more than paperwork and processes. Where workers rely on vehicles to carry out their roles, businesses also need to consider whether those vehicles are safe, roadworthy and properly maintained.

Tyres are fundamental to vehicle safety. They are the only point of contact between a vehicle and the road, yet they can be overlooked when drivers and businesses are focused on completing deliveries, attending appointments or meeting demanding schedules.

TyreSafe’s ACT approach provides a simple framework for preventative tyre checks:

Air Pressure – check pressures regularly and ensure they reflect the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations and the load being carried.

Condition – look for cuts, cracks, bulges, embedded objects and signs of damage or uneven wear.

Tread – check tread depth and ensure tyres meet legal requirements and are suitable for the vehicle and its intended use.

Making safety part of the working day

Wise supports businesses operating across sectors including logistics, last-mile delivery and construction, helping them manage onboarding, compliance and payments for self-employed workforces.

With more than 280,000 subcontractors onboarded and more than 2,500 companies using its platform, Wise helps businesses manage compliance while reducing the administrative burden associated with self-employed workforces.

The partnership recognises that workforce management extends beyond compliance processes. For businesses operating mobile workforces, the safety of people and the vehicles they rely on is an important part of responsible day-to-day operations.

In logistics and last-mile delivery, drivers may make multiple drops, navigate busy locations and cover significant mileage while working to tight delivery windows. In construction, subcontractors can regularly encounter kerbs, rough surfaces, debris and changing site conditions.

These working environments place additional demands on vehicles and their tyres, making preventative checks particularly important.

A shared commitment to proactive compliance

Wise’s compliance-first approach and TyreSafe’s focus on preventative tyre safety share a common principle: problems are better addressed before they become incidents.

By bringing these areas together, the partnership will help businesses and drivers understand that responsible workforce management includes creating the conditions for people to work safely.

Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, said: “We are delighted to be working with Wise because there is a natural connection between what we both want to achieve.

“Businesses have a responsibility to make sure the people working for them are properly supported, and that includes creating the conditions for them to work safely. For drivers, tyres are fundamental to that safety.

“We know that professional and last-mile drivers can be working under considerable time pressure, travelling between multiple locations and completing demanding delivery schedules. That makes preventative tyre checks even more important.

“A few minutes spent checking air pressure, condition and tread can identify a problem before it becomes a breakdown, a delay or, more seriously, a road safety risk.

“This partnership gives us an opportunity to connect tyre safety with the wider conversation about responsible workforce management and to reach businesses and drivers who have a vital role to play in keeping our roads safe.”

Trevor Ruane, Accounts Director at Wise, said: “At Wise, our mission is simple: we improve self-employment by taking away the unnecessary stress, paperwork and compliance risk that businesses and subcontractors face.

“But compliance is about more than documents and processes. For businesses operating mobile workforces, responsible management also means thinking about the safety of the people doing the work and the vehicles they rely on every day.

“That is why our partnership with TyreSafe is so important. Tyre safety is a practical, everyday issue for drivers and businesses, particularly in logistics, last-mile delivery and construction, where people are constantly on the move and working to demanding schedules.

“We are pleased to bring TyreSafe’s expertise into that wider conversation and help reinforce the message that prevention, preparation and responsible management should be part of the working day.”

Safety should not be something you react to. It should be built into the way you work.
