Flat tyre protection specialist strengthens industry coalition focused on reducing towing-related incidents
Tyron Runflat has joined the UK Towing Safety Alliance (UKTSA), reinforcing industry efforts to improve safety standards for drivers towing caravans, trailers, horseboxes and commercial loads across the UK.
Launched in May 2025, the UKTSA is a national coalition convened by the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety (PACTS) to tackle rising towing-related incidents and promote safer practices among drivers.
The initiative was formed following the disbandment of the Trailer and Towing Safety All Party Parliamentary Group and responds to concerning findings from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), which revealed that nearly half of non-caravan trailers checked were non-compliant, with many requiring immediate prohibition from the road due to faults such as defective brakes, lights or tyres.
Data also shows towing-related incidents increased by 16% between 2022 and 2024, highlighting the need for improved awareness and preventative safety checks.
The Alliance’s central educational message is its TLC campaign, which encourages drivers to perform three simple checks before towing:
T – Tyres
Check tyre pressure, tread depth and signs of ageing or damage.
L – Load
Ensure the load is evenly distributed, within legal limits and properly secured.
C – Connectivity
Confirm lights, electrics and breakaway cables are correctly connected and functioning.
The UKTSA operates as a collaborative platform, providing the safety framework and data while allowing member organisations to deliver messaging tailored to their sectors and audiences.
The Alliance brings together organisations from across the leisure, agricultural and transport sectors, including:
- TyreSafe
- National Caravan Council
- The British Horse Society
- National Highways
- The Camping and Caravanning Club
- National Trailer and Towing Association
- NFU Mutual
Each organisation contributes expertise and outreach to help amplify the campaign’s core safety messages.
