The TyreSafe Briefing took place on
Thursday 14 September.
The Tyre Safe Briefing is hosted by TyreSafe. It is the tyre safety charity’s premier event of the year and invites all tyre and road safety stakeholders to join the campaign to raise awareness of the importance of regular tyre checks
Briefing Highlights
It detailed, not only the campaigns and successes over the past year, but also the in-roads made by TyreSafe to reach out to road safety and road risk management stakeholders. Chair, Stuart Lovatt, explained how TyreSafe’s work is of crucial importance to the ‘Safe Systems’ approach, which is the accepted strategy on reducing the number of fatalities, casualties and incidents on Britain’s roads.
Stuart was joined by well-known and respected guests, including Adrian Walsh, Director of RoadSafe, and Jamie Hassall, Executive Director of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. Road safety partners also include Tony Crook, Road Safety Manager, Lancashire County Council; Kathleen Bowman, Community Road Safety Officer, Cambridge Fire and Rescue Service; and Sarah Smithurst National Trailer and Towing Association. Andy Pratt, Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Lancashire, will provide insight into the value of the tyre safety campaign to the Police.
TyreSafe also unveiled the results of the national Tread Depth Survey at the Point of Replacement, with an introduction from Mark Cartwright, Head of Commercial Vehicle Incident Prevention, National Highways. His colleague Beverley Hannah, Regional Safety Programme Manager South West, gave further details of how the research will be used to inform on-ground activities.
Tony Campbell, Chief Executive of the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA), also spoke.
And, of course, Tyre Safety Month materials were revealed, adding further to TyreSafe’s extensive library of assets for supporters to leverage.
In 2024, TyreSafe plans to host a live face-to-face Briefing. If you would like to find out more and are interested to attend or exhibit, please contact theteam@tyresafe.org
