Tyre Safety Starts Here: A New Campaign for Young Riders

TyreSafe and the National Young Riders Forum (NYRF) have launched a new tyre safety campaign tailored specifically for young riders aged 16–24—those most likely to be riding powered two-wheelers up to 125cc.

Rolling out alongside the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) Two-Wheel Operation, the campaign delivers essential safety guidance to help new riders build safe habits from day one.

Why This Campaign Matters

Young riders are among the most vulnerable on UK roads. Many are riding motorbikes or scooters as their first vehicle—without the knowledge or experience needed for proper maintenance. This campaign is designed to change that.

Know Your ACT: Tyre Checks for Every Ride

The campaign promotes TyreSafe’s ACT message, giving young riders a clear and simple way to remember key tyre safety checks:

  • A – Air Pressure: Correct pressure means better grip and control.
  • C – Condition: Watch for cracks, damage or foreign objects.
  • T – Tread: Legal tread depth keeps braking and handling safe.

These quick checks can prevent incidents and breakdowns—keeping riders safer on every journey.

Supporting New Riders from the Start

“This campaign is about giving young riders the best possible start. With the right tyre safety habits, they can stay in control and avoid preventable risks.”
Stuart Lovatt, Chair, TyreSafe

“We’re reaching out with safety messages that resonate, so young riders gain the knowledge they need to stay safe on two wheels.”
Heidi Duffy MBE, Facilitator, NYRF

Resources and Rollout

The campaign will include:

  • Digital content and social media graphics
  • Posters and materials for training centres
  • Engagement through road safety teams and local initiatives

These resources will be shared nationally to support young riders wherever they are.

A Safer Ride Starts with You

Tyre safety is critical—especially for new riders. This campaign helps young people understand their tyres, check them regularly, and ride with confidence.

ACT before you ride. Always.
