TyreSafe and Cycle Sprog Join Forces to Help Families Keep Young Cyclists Safe

New partnership promotes simple tyre checks for safer family cycling

TyreSafe, the UK’s only charity dedicated to raising awareness of tyre safety, has teamed up with Cycle Sprog, the UK’s leading family cycling advice website, to help parents and children build essential tyre management from the very first ride.

Cycling is one of the most enjoyable and healthy activities families can share, offering freedom, fitness, and fun in the fresh air. But safety must come first—and that starts with the tyres. Tyres are the only point of contact between a bike and the road, meaning poor maintenance can lead to incidents, injuries, or complications, mid-ride.

Through this new collaboration, Cycle Sprog will integrate TyreSafe’s proven ACT message—Air pressure, Condition, and Tread—into its expert advice and buyer’s guides, helping parents and children understand how and why to check their tyres before every ride. The joint campaign will also include online guides, social media content, and practical resources for families.

“Tyres aren’t just an issue for motorists—they’re every bit as important for cyclists, especially young riders just starting out,” said Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair. “By teaching these simple safety checks now, we can help children develop habits that will keep them safe on their bikes today, and on motor vehicles in the future. Our partnership with Cycle Sprog is a fantastic way to get this life-saving message into homes across the UK.”

Cycle Sprog, which has helped thousands of families choose the right bikes and gear for their children, will use its trusted platform to make tyre safety an easy, everyday part of cycling life.

Emily Wormald, Partnerships and Reviews Lead at Cycle Sprog, said: “Cycling is a wonderful way for families to spend time together, but we know that safety is key to ensuring those rides are memorable for all the right reasons. By working with TyreSafe, we can give parents and children the confidence to look after their bikes properly making every journey safer, smoother, and more enjoyable.”

With the impending resumption of the school year, and families and pupils opting to travel to school by bicycle, the message about ensuring tyres are in optimum condition for a safe and hassle-free journey is extremely important, both now and as an evolving message for young road users.
