TyreSafe partners with Bradford Council to strengthen tyre safety awareness across the district

TyreSafe, the UK’s leading tyre safety charity, has announced a new partnership with Bradford Council to help improve tyre safety awareness for road users across the district. With more than 1.5 billion vehicle miles travelled on Bradford’s roads each year, a busy urban network and a high concentration of learner and newly qualified drivers, ensuring vehicles are fitted with legal, well-maintained tyres is a vital part of keeping road users safe. The Council and TyreSafe both partner with West Yorkshire Vision Zero, which was launched in 2024 with the goal to eradicate all road deaths and serious injuries in the region.

The partnership will see TyreSafe working alongside Bradford Council’s Road Safety Team to promote simple, preventative tyre checks, helping road users understand how tyre condition directly affects braking performance, grip in wet weather and overall vehicle control—particularly on congested urban roads where stopping distances can be critical.

Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, said, “Tyres are fundamental to a vehicle’s safety, yet they’re often overlooked. In a district like Bradford, where traffic levels are high and journeys are frequent, worn or under-inflated tyres can significantly increase risk. By partnering with Bradford Council, we can reinforce the importance of regular tyre checks and help road users understand how maintaining their tyres plays a key role in keeping themselves and others safe.”

Bradford Council continues to invest in education, engagement and enforcement to reduce road casualties, with a strong focus on helping road users build safer habits and maintain roadworthy vehicles.

Cllr Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder – Regeneration, Planning & Transport at Bradford Council, added, “Vehicle condition is an important part of road safety, and tyres play a crucial role in how a vehicle performs—particularly when braking or driving in wet conditions. Working with TyreSafe allows us to strengthen our road safety messaging and encourage drivers across the district to take simple steps that can make a real difference on Bradford’s roads.”

Through the partnership, TyreSafe and Bradford Council will collaborate on campaigns and engagement activity aimed at improving awareness of tyre safety, supporting safer journeys and contributing to the Council’s wider casualty-reduction ambitions.
