TyreSafe is pleased to announce a new partnership with Logistics UK, strengthening a shared commitment to improving road safety, supporting sustainable transport and promoting good practice across the logistics sector.
As one of the UK’s largest membership organisations, Logistics UK represents the logistics industry, including road, rail, water and air, alongside the retailers, manufacturers and freight buyers whose businesses depend on the efficient movement of goods. Logistics UK has over 21,000 members, accounting for almost half of the UK lorry fleet (over 200,000). Through representation, campaigning, compliance support, training and expert advice, Logistics UK plays a vital role in shaping safe and efficient supply chains across the UK.
The new partnership reflects the increasing importance of tyre safety within modern logistics operations, where tyre condition and maintenance are critical not only for road safety, but also for operational efficiency, environmental performance and legal compliance.
Tyres remain one of the most significant – and preventable – risk factors affecting vehicle safety and sustainability. More than half of tyres on UK roads are estimated to be underinflated, contributing to around £1 billion in wasted fuel annually, alongside increased tyre wear and premature replacement requirements. Poor tyre maintenance also continues to contribute to millions of MOT failures and hundreds of thousands of roadside breakdowns each year.
Tyre-related defects are responsible for more than 2 million MOT failures annually, with approximately one million classified as dangerous. Tyres are also the leading cause of MOT failures during the first seven years of a vehicle’s life. Meanwhile, tyre defects contribute to one in five breakdowns on motorways and major A roads, with tyre-related incidents remaining one of the most common reasons for recovery callouts.
For commercial fleets operating HGVs and vans, effective tyre management is particularly important. Correct inflation, legal tread depth and regular inspections support safer journeys, improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions and lower operating costs — all central priorities for logistics operators managing increasingly complex supply chains and sustainability targets.
