TyreSafe has partnered with Knowsley Council to help improve tyre safety among road users across the borough, supporting the council’s wider commitment to making Knowsley’s roads safer.
The partnership will see TyreSafe work with the council to promote the importance of tyre safety among road users, supported by practical TyreSafe resources designed to help road users understand their responsibilities, carry out essential tyre checks and identify potential tyre problems before they become a safety issue.
The partnership supports Knowsley Council’s wider Vision Zero road safety strategy, which aims to eliminate fatalities and serious injuries on the borough’s roads through a combination of engineering, education and enforcement.
Over the five-year period ending in 2025, 945 police-recorded road collisions were recorded in Knowsley, resulting in 262 people being killed or seriously injured. This included 12 fatalities and 250 people seriously injured.
With more than one billion vehicle miles travelled on roads across the borough each year, ensuring vehicles are safe and properly maintained is an important part of protecting drivers, passengers and other road users.
Tyre condition is a key part of vehicle safety. Tyres are the only point of contact between a vehicle and the road and play a crucial role in braking, steering and maintaining control. Regular checks can help road users identify issues such as incorrect inflation, insufficient tread or damage before they become a more serious problem.
The importance of continued awareness of tyre safety is reinforced by enforcement activity across the region, where defective or illegal tyres can result in significant penalties for motorists and, more importantly, increase the risk to everyone using the road.
The partnership between TyreSafe and Knowsley Council will help put practical tyre safety information in front of motorists, complementing the council’s existing road safety, education and enforcement activity.

The partnership will create opportunities for TyreSafe and Knowsley Council to collaborate on road safety campaigns, communications, community engagement and educational activity, helping ensure motorists across the borough have access to clear and practical information about tyre safety.
TyreSafe is continuing to build partnerships with councils, road safety organisations and other stakeholders across the UK, recognising that reducing road deaths and serious injuries requires collaboration across education, enforcement, engineering and safer vehicle use.
