Devon & Cornwall Police Partner with TyreSafe to Drive Down Tyre-Related Incidents
New partnership aims to tackle risks across the region, in particular, those posed on rural roads and during peak holiday traffic
TyreSafe, the UK’s road safety charity dedicated to tyre safety, is delighted to welcome Devon and Cornwall Police as an official supporter of its mission to empower road users with the knowledge they need to make safer choices.
The partnership focuses on addressing one of the most overlooked but critical aspects of road safety—tyre condition—on Devon and Cornwall’s extensive rural road network, in addition to busy arterial roads and motorways, and during periods of heavy seasonal traffic when millions of visitors flock to the region.
Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, said, “We’re delighted to welcome Devon and Cornwall Police as a TyreSafe supporter. Their commitment to road safety is second to none, and by working together, we can make a real difference in reducing incidents caused by illegal or poorly maintained tyres. With so many rural roads and the influx of visitors during peak seasons, tyre safety checks are critical for keeping all road users safe.”
Adrian Leisk, Head of Road Safety for Devon and Cornwall Police, added “Tyres are the only part of the vehicle in contact with the road, so ensuring they are in good condition is vital—particularly on rural roads where grip and braking distances can be compromised. By partnering with TyreSafe, we aim to raise awareness among local drivers and the millions of visitors to our region each year that a quick tyre check can save lives.”
The addition of Devon and Cornwall Police strengthens TyreSafe’s extensive network of over 220 organisations, including Cheshire Constabulary, Cumbria Constabulary, Derbyshire Police, Durham Constabulary, Lincolnshire Police, Sussex Police, the NPCC, and BikeSafe. Together, these supporters share a common goal – reducing the number of tyre-related incidents on UK roads.
