Bosch Car Service Joins TyreSafe as Associate Member
TyreSafe is pleased to welcome Bosch Car Service, one of the world’s largest independent workshop chains, as an Associate Member. With over 300 locations across the UK and Ireland, Bosch Car Service’s partnership with TyreSafe aims to amplify tyre safety messages and encourage regular tyre checks among road users.
Stuart Lovatt expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration:
“We are thrilled to welcome Bosch Car Service as an Associate Member. Their extensive network and longstanding reputation for delivering high-quality service means they are well-placed to spread TyreSafe’s important messages about tyre safety.” Stuart Eagland, representing Bosch Car Service, added: “Tyre safety is a crucial element of overall vehicle safety, and we are excited to partner with TyreSafe to raise awareness about the importance of regular tyre checks.”
TyreSafe Joins Forces with Yellow Wellies for Farm Safety Week
TyreSafe is proud to partner with the Farm Safety Foundation (Yellow Wellies) for Farm Safety Week (22–26 July), highlighting the crucial role of tyre safety in agriculture. On Thursday 24 July, the focus will be on All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) tyre safety, supported by tailored advice for farmers and rural workers to ACT—check Air pressure, Condition and Tread.
“An unexpected tyre failure can do more than compromise safety—it can delay harvests, livestock movement or deliveries, hitting farmers hard financially,” said Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair. The partnership aims to embed tyre safety into broader farm safety messaging and resources, covering everything from tractors and trailers to 4x4s, vans and quad bikes.
TyreSafe Joins Investigation on Dangerous Part-Worn Tyres in Preston
TyreSafe supported a multi-agency operation in Preston that exposed shocking levels of non-compliance among retailers selling part-worn tyres. None of the 30 tyres inspected across three garages met the legal requirements—zero were correctly marked, none were inflation tested, and several showed serious safety defects, including embedded screws, sidewall tears, and structural failures.
TyreSafe Chair Stuart Lovatt commented: “Drivers may think part-worns are a budget option—but what they’re really buying could be a ticking time bomb. Not one tyre inspected was legally safe.”
The investigation, led by Lancashire Trading Standards and supported by Lancashire Constabulary, highlights the urgent need for better enforcement and consumer awareness. TyreSafe continues to campaign against unsafe part-worns and urges drivers to always check for proper markings and evidence of testing before purchase.
In addition to hosting our Annual Briefing this month, TyreSafe has been busy taking tyre safety messages directly to the public. Our Operations Director, Mike Bourne, supported a major driver safety week at Warburtons’ Bolton HQ, where the renowned bakery teamed up with National Highways to deliver safety presentations and vehicle demonstrations for their drivers. Earlier in the month, our chairman, Stuart Lovatt, also took part in a national radio day, highlighting the link between diabetes and tyre safety—raising awareness of the importance of sufficient tread depth for safe braking among those with Diabetes Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN). He was also filmed by ITV, and recorded a piece to camera in support of Verifleet’s MOT data release, helping to reinforce the connection between regular vehicle checks and safer journeys.
This week, we have been invited to Autogem’s Under Pressure 25 finals day, held at the wonderful Pirelli Performance Centre in Burton on Trent on Wednesday 25th June 2025. Our Treasurer, Simon Hiorns will be attending and our Operations Director, Mike Bourne will be judging the annual competition, spotting emerging talent and championing tyre safety.
TyreSafe Welcomes Self-Driving Advancements, Warns Tyre Safety Must Not Be Overlooked
Following the SMMT’s recent announcement on the UK’s progress in self-driving technology, TyreSafe has welcomed the safety potential but issued a clear reminder: even the most advanced systems rely on roadworthy tyres to function correctly.
“With over 35% of 2024 MOT failures linked to ignored tyre advisories, we can’t afford to neglect the basics,” said Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe. “ADAS features like Autonomous Emergency Braking are only as effective as the tyres beneath them.” TyreSafe is calling for greater awareness and education to ensure tyre safety keeps pace with the future of mobility.
TyreSafe Calls for Action as Road Deaths Rise and Tyre Neglect Persists
TyreSafe has raised concerns over the recent increase in UK road fatalities, including a 9% rise in motorcyclist deaths, as revealed in provisional 2024 DfT figures. While new safety technologies are welcome, TyreSafe stresses that their effectiveness is undermined if tyres are illegal or poorly maintained.
Worn or underinflated tyres reduce stopping distances and grip—putting all road users at risk, especially motorcyclists. TyreSafe urges the government to back technology mandates with renewed public education on tyre safety fundamentals.
The recent TyreSafe Briefing highlighted a critical problem for the tyre business community: customers delaying crucial tyre replacements. This isn’t just a safety concern; it directly impacts your bottom line. Motorists are compromising roadworthiness, driven by ‘cost of living’ demands, and continual financial pressures, tyre safety seems to be slipping further down their priority list.
Payment Assist can ease that pain point. We offer your customers a simple, interest-free way to spread the cost of essential tyre work. This removes the financial hurdle, enabling them to fit the tyres they need, when they need them. It means you provide a solution, increase brand loyalty and collectively, we make roads safer for everyone.
