End of Year Review Now Available
We’re pleased to announce that the TyreSafe 2025 End of Year Review is now live. It captures the milestones, partnerships, campaigns, and impact delivered throughout a landmark year for tyre safety.
TyreSafe has unveiled its most comprehensive suite of business-focused tyre safety resources to date: three new toolkits developed in partnership with Driving for Better Business (DfBB), FORS, and Lancashire County Council.
Supporting a six-week national educational push on fleet tyre safety, the toolkits include:
Grey Fleet Toolkit (with DfBB) – helping employers manage safety and compliance for non-company-owned vehicles used for work.
Fleet Tyre Management Toolkit (with FORS) – embedding best practice in tyre procurement, inspection, and maintenance.
Fleet Service Manager Toolkit (with LCC) – providing guidance for integrating tyre safety into training, supervision, and workshop operations.
With over half of UK tyres underinflated and one quarter of vehicles carrying dangerous tyres, the campaign aims to help organisations cut cost, risk, and carbon while improving road safety.
5.1 Million Van Fleet in Crisis – 25% MOT Failure Rate Double That of Cars, Driven by Neglected Advisories
TyreSafe today announced a critical finding from new 2024 MOT data analysis, using proprietary metrics from fleet risk specialist Verifleet: Light Commercial Vehicles (LCVs), or vans, are failing their first mandatory MOT test at double the rate of cars. The study shows that 2021-registered LCVs had a 25.9% failure rate, compared to 12.6% for non-LCVs in the same age group. This safety crisis affects the UK’s record-breaking van fleet of over 5.1 million vehicles.
The data highlights systemic neglect, with brakes and tyres the primary failure points. Crucially, the analysis confirms the high failure rate is not random: it is driven by neglected advisories that escalate into dangerous, MOT-failing defects. Verifleet’s data also shows that around 25% of tyre failures on subsequent MOTs were previously noted as advisories, proving the direct link between ignored warnings and preventable failures.
TyreSafe has announced a new partnership with Child Seat Safety Ltd, the UK’s only independent organisation specialising in car seat training and consultancy.
The collaboration reinforces a critical message: safe child car seats must be matched with safe, roadworthy tyres. Together, the organisations will develop new resources and awareness activity to help parents, carers, retailers, and road safety professionals adopt a holistic approach to child passenger safety.
World Diabetes Day: TyreSafe & DSO Tackle Hidden Driver Health Risks
On World Diabetes Day, TyreSafe joined forces with the Diabetes Safety Organisation to highlight the often-overlooked impact of diabetes on driving safety.
Stark new data from DSO’s Hiding in Plain Sight report shows:
Drivers who work behind the wheel are twice as likely to develop diabetes.
Around 40% of transport employees may have diabetes or pre-diabetes.
58% of drivers surveyed have experienced a hypo while working.
The partnership calls on employers to combine driver health checks with TyreSafe’s ACT tyre safety checks to create “Diabetes Safe, Tyre Safe” workplaces.
TyreSafe is proud to partner with Brake for Road Safety Week (16–22 November), supporting the theme “Safe vehicles save lives.”
With more than 1,600 UK road deaths each year, the partnership amplifies the need for safe, well-maintained vehicles and helps fleets and drivers understand the vital role tyres play in preventing collisions, especially during winter.
In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, TyreSafe has partnered with DAC Beachcroft, a leading commercial and transport law firm, to strengthen fleet compliance education.
Together, we will look to produce:
A filmed mock trial showing the real legal consequences of tyre neglect.
A suite of case studies drawn from real-world investigations, public inquiries, and prosecutions.
These resources form a core part of TyreSafe’s expanding Fleet Risk Management programme, helping businesses understand how tyre neglect can lead to regulatory action, licence revocation, and significant legal exposure.
Supporting National Highways’ Winter TRIP Campaign
TyreSafe is supporting the latest phase of National Highways’ TRIP winter campaign, focusing on the importance of Prepare.
With winter breakdowns up 21% over five years and one in five motorway breakdowns caused by tyres, drivers are urged to follow TyreSafe’s ACT checks before every journey:
Cold weather reduces pressure, increases stopping distances, and makes tyre maintenance more urgent than ever.
