As Tyre Safety Month draws to a close, we want to take a moment to thank every one of our incredible supporters, partners, and advocates who helped make this year’s campaign our most successful yet.
Under the theme “Life has enough pressures. Don’t let tyres be one,” the 2025 campaign shone a national spotlight on the growing connection between everyday stress and tyre neglect — reminding millions of drivers that you can’t control life’s pressure—but you can check your tyre pressure
Record-Breaking Engagement
This year’s campaign broke new ground in reach, engagement, and impact.
From social media to national broadcast, Tyre Safety Month reached audiences on a scale never seen before:
Over 78 million listeners reached through national and regional radio.
Major coverage on Sky News Radio (34 million listeners), Bauer Media Group (26 million listeners), and the On Air News Network (170 stations, 16.3 million listeners).
Dedicated coverage across the BBC and regional media.
A huge variety of on-the-ground activations by supporters across the UK.
Our heartfelt thanks go to Toyota, Auto Items, and Pro-Align for leading the charge with staff engagement campaigns, competitions, and workplace initiatives — and to all those who hosted events, shared materials, and supported commercial vehicle drivers at truck stops in Lymm and Exeter. Together, you brought tyre safety to life where it matters most — in communities, workplaces, and on the road.
Research that Made Headlines
Our new joint research with The AA exposed major gaps in driver tyre knowledge, showing that:
61% of drivers were unaware they could face fines of up to £2,500 per illegal tyre, and nearly half did not know that each illegal tyre carries 3 penalty points.
The findings dominated headlines throughout October, reinforcing why our message — Check your tyres: Air pressure, Condition, and Tread (ACT) — remains as critical as ever.
A United Industry for Safer Roads
This month also saw a defining moment for the UK tyre industry.
Following our new partnership with the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA), TyreSafe announced formal collaborations with the British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (BTMA) and the Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA).
For the first time, all four corners of the tyre industry — manufacturers, importers, retailers, and safety advocates — are working together under one vision:
To eliminate harm caused by illegal and poorly maintained tyres.
As Stuart Lovatt said, “This is a defining moment for tyre safety in the UK. Whether someone is buying, fitting, or manufacturing a tyre, the same clear message will now be heard — safe tyres save lives.”
Looking Ahead – Tyre Safety Every Day
Although Tyre Safety Month has come to an end, tyre safety is a year-round commitment, and our work is far from done.
In the coming weeks, TyreSafe will shift focus to Fleet Safety, launching three major new resources to support employers, drivers, and road safety professionals:
Fleet Tyre Management Toolkit (with FORS) – embedding best practice in maintenance and procurement.
Grey Fleet Toolkit (with Driving for Better Business) – managing non-company vehicles effectively and safely.
Fleet Service Manager Toolkit (with Lancashire County Council) – providing leadership guidance, workshops, and training materials to help embed tyre safety in daily operations.
These toolkits represent the next step in TyreSafe’s ongoing mission to make tyre safety a compliance, cost, and carbon issue for businesses — helping organisations large and small integrate tyre safety into every journey.
Building Momentum for 2026
As we look to the year ahead — and to TyreSafe’s 20th anniversary in 2026, and our much-anticipated Annual Briefing and Awards at the Belfry — our ambition has never been clearer:
To create a UK where every driver, rider, and fleet operator understands that tyre safety is not optional — it’s essential.
Thank you again to everyone who shared our message, hosted events, or took part in Tyre Safety Month. Together, we’re turning awareness into action, and saving lives in the process.
Let’s keep the momentum rolling.
Tyre safety is a year-round issue. Our work continues — and together, we’ll make every journey safer.

Auto Items Launches Innovative Tyre Tread Mat for Driver Awareness
Auto Items have launched a useful new tool designed to support road safety professionals in educating drivers about tyre safety. The new A5 Tyre Tread Demonstration Mat is made from high-quality 4mm PVC and provides a practical, hands-on way to show how tyre tread depth affects grip and safety on the road.
The mat features tread grooves at 2mm, 1.6mm and 1mm—clearly highlighting the legal minimum tread depth of 1.6mm. It also includes a reference to the tyre wear indicator blocks (TWI), which appear at 1.6mm on real tyres to signal when a change is due.
One of its most impactful features is the visual representation of the contact patch – the small area of rubber actually in contact with the road. Highlighted in grey for both cars and motorbikes, these patches show just how vital sufficient tread is in maintaining traction and control.
This easy-to-use resource is ideal for events, workshops, school visits and driver engagement activities. It’s available in single units and can be ordered directly from Auto Items.
Our road safety partners are hosting local activities to promote tyre safety — and they need support from across the tyre industry. If you’re able to get involved and help raise awareness in your community, please reach out to the event organiser directly.
